Google Dominates Global Paid Search

Google dominated the paid search scene in 2011 with a global market share of 76% and an annual spending growth of 27% over the previous year, reported by the leading search marketing software Covario. Paid search spending was down nearly 18% for the Bing-Yahoo alliance advertising platform. Chinese search engine Baidu saw growth of 185% over 2010.

According to the new data, the global search spending increased 21% for 2011, with a 28% increase during Q4 (year over year). To better compete with similar brands or businesses, the software's experts suggest brands increase the search spending in year 2012. In the Western Hemisphere, they predict an increase of search spending between 18% and 22%. In the EMEA, a 15-18% increase is predicted, and in the Asia Pacific region, the experts believe the search spending could be increased by at least 40%. They said Asia Pacific would continue to be where the major growth opportunities exist for global search marketers in the high-tech industry.
