Do you see Facebook SEO coming? |
10 Aug 2010 |
If your company is on Facebook already, perhaps it won’t do too much harm if you work on improving the page’s ranking on Facebook Search as well.
To begin with, it is useful to bear in mind that when you create a unique page or discussion topic, it would mean an opportunity to implement SEO tactics.
You may consider utilizing the space provided by different features of a Facebook platform to place keywords related to your business. Use keywords strategically when planning and writing the page name, vanity URL, "about" box and "Overview" section of the info tab. You may also consider adding images with captions and links with relevant keywords using Facebook Markup Language (FBML).
Some other features worth making an effort on include external links attached to page contents and questions posted on the page. External sites linked to contents on Facebook can help improving the ranking of your company in search engines outside of Facebook. Meanwhile, make your question posts (perhaps self-generated answers, too) more interactive, descriptive and widely spread; this way, your posts are more likely to get more "Like", which brings it up in general search results.
On a side note, since Bing provides Facebook search results for web pages outside the Facebook network, it is essential to include Bing in your SEO plan in order to improve the search ranking of your page on Facebook.
