Yahoo Launches New Ad Campaign to Edge Out Google

Yahoo is spending an estimated $75-85 million on an Ad campaign to attract more users to its page. The objective of the campaign is to present Yahoo as the one-stop internet destination with highlights for every aspect of your life. A commercial featuring the highly personalized internet experience of Yahoo and an uninviting blank page of Google will be aired on TV, billboards and over the internet, with the tagline to cast Google in a negative light – "You come to this place so you can leave".

Previously, Yahoo launched a marketing campaign worth $100 million, but traffic flow to the homepage did not show any signs of positive change. With the growth of Bing, Yahoo is having its share further diminished in the search industry.

While Yahoo has strong confidence in the TV commercial, many do not see how the campaign is going to help. The root of the problem, they reckon, lies in the product of Yahoo, not the marketing campaign they use. It is the algorithmic search and semantic search that Yahoo has to deal with. And there are more than one rival: Google and Facebook.
