Social Media gets more Mobile in the year of Tiger |
19 Feburary 2010 |
The network of social media is getting as vibrant and energetic as the Tiger with several changes going on the way.
The launch of different smartphones provides a highly-mobile portal to the Internet, delivering more people to the reach of social media. This is why Facebook has come up with a Lite version to gain a share in the mobile marketing market – a version simplified enough to be seen on the small screen of our cells. 2009 is characterized by updates of "What are you doing?" while 2010 will see the era of "What are you doing and where are you?". All will come along because of the growing use of smartphones in the social media scene.
There is also a trend in merging social networking with games, especially in Asia. Mega-players such as Tencent, Sina and Sohu from China are doing great in merging all social aspects of video, gaming, forums, blogging, search and networking into their sites. Not only will China become the next most important site for social media networking but fusion of different interactive elements will also take place as a new kind of strategy.
The only problem with social media networking, as reported in recent news, is the issue of privacy. Eventually, there will be two groups of people – one with visible and authentic identity on social networks and the other anonymous on forums and bulletin boards.
