Google and its Superphone, Nexus One |
12 January 2010 |
Google's Nexus One is already out, but its sales business is not getting as good as predicted. If Nexus One cannot rival iPhone in Hong Kong as it will be in the US, the only explanation lies not with its performance but with the special market of Hong Kong. Fact is: Nexus One is designed for work while iPhone functions best for play. Potential competitors of iPhone would be Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft because entertainment and trend always come first for consumers in Hong Kong.
Although Nexus One contains some unique features like noise-suppression technology for clearer calls and messaging by sound, its battery is much less powerful than that of iPhone. Nexus One takes longer hours to re-charge but supports fewer hours for playing videos, mp3 or phone-calling. Despite the name "Superphone" of Nexus One, iPhone and its apps will be more useful tools for mobile media marketing in Hong Kong.
Having purchased AdMob in last Novemebr, Google is now enjoying an unlimited access to user data on many of the most popular mobile destinations including iPhone apps. With such information, Google will be given a sharper competitive edge in securing a place even in the mobile online search market after reaching a saturated share in the search engine market.
In the US, it is predicted that smart phones will outnumber computers as the handset becomes the most convenient and instant gateway to the Internet. Such phenomenon is expected to happen in Hong Kong soon after the success of iPhone and Blueberry and the launch of Nexus One in Hong Kong.
