Pages vs. Groups |
22 January 2010 |
There have been enquiries asking us about the difference between Facebook Groups and Facebook Pages. After a re-design on Groups in October last year, Facebook Groups and Facebook Pages even share the same layout now. To many experienced users on Facebook, the two items look simply like twins more than the Twins we know. How should we tell them apart?
If you are wondering about the sudden rise of Post-80s, check out the recent Facebook Groups. Today, it is the Facebook Groups, not the political parties that drive the many Post-80s to gather at the Legco. In fact, Facebook Groups are designed for connecting people with a common interest or experience, or urging participation for an event. It can attract quick attention and active discussions, especially with its privileged function of messaging to all.
On the other hand, Facebook Pages are created for people to connect with brands or famous artists. A Page is like an official representative of a business or person, with its main purpose of maintaining a long-term relationship. Although a Page can only send its messages to specified targets, every activity on the Page would be reported in the Updates. Unlike Groups which are open to registered Facebook users only, Pages are public to all and can be indexed on search engines like Google, raising its SEO potential. Any member can initiate an activity or discussion in the Group while only the official party of the brand can release messages on the Page.
While both Groups and Pages could put up wall posts, photos, links, videos, discussions and more, only Pages could add customerized applications – a useful tool in a marketing campaign. With more than 10 fans on a Page, visitor statistics can also be generated. These are all useful items in a social media campaign.
To put it simply, if you want to connect a network of people and create an active interaction among the network only, go Groups; if you want to release information and engage your audience with ongoing updates, having more control over your brand-building, go Pages. But if you want to know more or have specific questions about Pages or Groups, go Search Easy – send us an email and we can tell you more about what you want to know.
