HSBC - the First to Go Green on YouTube |
23 October 2009 |
HSBC, the world's local bank, has launched a successful campaign with its extensive use of the social media platform. This is good news not only to the marketing department but also to mother nature, for the theme of this campaign is about going "paperless". A video competition was organized to promote the use and benefits of e-statements by inviting video entries from the public. HSBC also turned itself the first advertiser to initiate a branded "contest channel" on YouTube in launching this competition.
Consistent with its theme, the campaign was launched in a "paperless" way. Every means to encourage people in joining this competition was carried out in the virtual world through various interactive channels like Facebook, Twitter, On.cc and more. The public were hence provided a platform to inspire and share with each other.
In fact, e-statements/e-banking is now a growing trend among local banks. The ultimate prospect: big chunks of trees and money saved and our letterbox returning to a personal space where corporate mails are evaporated into binary bits of 0 and 1 in the cyberspace.
Upcoming is an iPhone application in collaboration with the HK Observatory to deliver weather forecast, raising public awareness towards climate issues. While this campaign has set HSBC the leader in leveraging the social media network, it also serves as a "test platform" to see how far an online campaign can go. What's better way to launch a "test platform" in the name of being eco-friendly?
