Another Big Wave from Google |
13 October 2009 |
Search giant Google has thrown down a gauntlet, a real big one that will revolutionize the way people communicate and collaborate online.
This latest project, Google Wave, is a webpage where various elements like e-mail, instant messaging and social networking are combined to allow real-time collaboration of different groups of people. The ultimate goal is to create a universal inbox where video, maps, photos and even voice conversations can become data objects to be shared and manipulated in real time by a group connected to a wave.
Google Wave is also a user-friendly platform where developers are free to create applications that supplement it, which would be another lure for more users.
Although Google Wave is not compatible at Microsoft's Internet Explorer, a Google's Chrome could be installed to enable the execution of Google Wave. While some think it is a tactic to snatch users from Internet Explorer, Wave is more about boosting Google's advertising revenues, because the better Google know you as a person, the more targeted their advertising can be and the more they can charge for it
A future prospect: wind-surfers in HK could collaborate with each other using telephone conferencing, Google maps and other latest applications on Wave to before they set foot in the next sea-wave.
